Area 02 · Act 1 · The Wheat Incident
The Walgoolan Line
Walgoolan district south of Campion — wheat paddocks laced with the district's famous rabbit-proof-style fence lines and barbed wire, funnelling everything toward the crossroads store.
DAY 6: THE ARMY CONSTRUCTS MANY EXCELLENT FENCES. THE EMUS ARE UNMOVED, THEN EXTREMELY MOVED.
The history behind it
Walgoolan was the second real theatre of the Emu War, where the army tried ambush tactics along fence lines after the Campion fiasco. Here the fences ARE the tactic: barbed wire steers your swarm toward waiting guns, exactly as Meredith intended and exactly as it failed.
Outposts (4)
Take all of them and the area is yours. Retreat halfway through and the ones you already hold stay held.
The Wire Junction
Grain silo · Defence tier 2
A Lewis Gun Post at the meeting point of three barbed-wire runs — the wire funnels careless swarms straight into the cone. Teaches routing around wire as a steering threat, or (later) pole-vaulting it with sticks.
Walgoolan General Store
Supply depot · Defence tier 2
Sandbagged store commandeered as a supply depot: crates, a Rifleman Line, and the campaign's first Sandbag Officer, whistling reload buffs from behind the flour sacks. Teaches priority targets — a thrown stick arcs neatly over his sandbags.
McPherson's Homestead
Homestead garrison · Defence tier 1
A farmhouse garrison of settlers with shotguns treated as a weak Rifleman Line. Strays shelter in the back paddock — capturing here nets bonus emus. The farmer's wife audibly sides with the emus.
The South Fence Gate
Telegraph station · Defence tier 2
A second Lewis post covering the only gap in the southern wire. Its gunner has been ordered not to waste ammunition and telegraphs every burst with visible reluctance.
